This is a set of three oak stools for Garry and Tan each with a different top - Sycamore, Elm and Cherry. The through tenons are wedged with Wenge - a very dark and heavy African wood.

Those rounded tenons look great, how do you get them to fit so perfectly and so perfectly round? I've done blind tenons into rounded mortises by taking the corners of with a chisel but never such a good fit.

Thanks Al ! The way I do them is when I've made a template to rout the mortice I put it on a thin piece of wood ( sycamore or beech or something smooth) about 5mm thick and rout the mortice shape through the thin bit of wood. I then hold it onto the end of the tenon and transfer the exact shape of the mortice with a sharp pencil. Then like you say I shape it with a chisel then round it with a long thin piece of sandpaper wrapped over the tenon. Hope that makes sense !
